Girod Jackson, III
Girod Jackson, III is a former Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 87. He was first elected to the chamber in 2007, serving until his resignation on August 22, 2013. Jackson resigned as U.S. Attorney Dana Bonte's office charged him with one count of making a fraudulent statement in his tax returns and two counts of willful failure to file taxes. Jackson was alleged to have misrepresented on a federal tax return how much his company, Diversified Ventures, earned during 2006. Prosecutors said the company made about $600,000 from contracts while Jackson and his wife listed only $108,000. That discrepancy caused the Jacksons to avoid paying almost $80,000 in taxes.[1][2]

Issues
Minority judges
In 2012, Jackson re-introduced a proposal to increase the number of minority judges in Louisiana's 24th Judicial District. The 24th Judicial district covers Jefferson Parish and corresponded to his own district, House District 87.[3] Jackson had hoped to implement his plan to add a third minority judge through House Bill 523, however time ran out when the session ended on June 23.[4]
In 2012, out of the 16 judges in the 24th District, two were African-American, and were elected from a subdistrict in which minorities comprised the majority of voters. Jackson proposed that a third judge be elected from that same subdistrict, or the next subdistrict that sees a vacancy after January 1, 2012.[4]
