An effort to recall Mayor Joseph Maki, Mayor Pro Tem Hugo Mattonen and Commissioner David Nemacheck in Gladstone, Michigan from their positions was launched in July 2014. Wording of the recall petition was rejected at a clarity hearing.[1] A second petition successfully collected enough signatures to hold a recall election. The recall election took place on May 5, 2015.[2] Maki and Mattonen were recalled, while Nemacheck was retained.[3]
