Glenn Cotton
Glenn Cotton ran for judge on the 68th District Court in 2012.
2012 election
Cotton was one of four candidates running for two positions in the general election on November 6, 2012. He was not elected to the court, receiving 11.35 percent of the vote.[1][2]
Education
Cotton received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1989. He earned his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1994.[3]
Career
Cotton was a law clerk and court officer for the 52-1 District Court in Oakland County from May 1992 to February 1995. He worked as a research attorney for the State Judicial Council from 1995 to 1997. He has been an attorney in private practice since 1997.[3]
Probate contingency case
In November 2012, Cotton was ordered by Probate Judge Jennie E. Barkey to repay $16,500 for a fee paid by one of his clients. Though there is no outright prohibition against attorneys receiving contingency in probate settlement cases, a written contract for the fee is required. Without that document, Judge Barkey found that Cotton was improperly paid a contingency fee by his client.[4]
