  • The Path to Prosperity and Freedom involves improving the economy for all not the just the few, preserving and improving the environment, Preserving, Protecting and Defending the Constitution of the United States against all foes foreign and domestic, including jailed insurrectionists, and protecting the freedom of choice in reproductive health and family planning
  • i will vote to codify the Roe and Casey decisions
  • America First is America Alone. Our Alliances must be supported, cultivated and expanded to protect US interests and individual freedom. Support for foreign despots is unacceptable.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He led the country out of the depression and to victory in WWII while suffering incredible disability.
Honesty of character and the willingness to do the right thing for the country even if it means personal sacrifice
As an engineer and a veteran having both international business and local government experience I have a wide range of knowledge and experience that is useful in making decisions. I also have significant experience working with very conservative county commissioners where we were able to work very successfully on common issues.
A Representative must be willing to study the issues to understand the consequences of government action or inaction. They must place the common good above personal advancement

Dune, I read it around 50 years ago - struggle against oppression
Chip War - Brief history of the development and importance of computer chips. Published in 2023 it points our the critical importance of defending Taiwan and the need to develop more high level manufacturing capacity in the US. By implication, it supports the goals of the CHIPS ACT
Representatives are elected based on population. The House starts all revenue measures.
Protection of individual freedom from those who would restrict reproductive choice and healthcare, protection of our democratically elected constitutional republic, protection of free speech, maintaining our alliances, solving our national debt problem without reducing benefits, solving our affordable housing crisis and solving Climate Change.

During his service in the state legislature, my opponent voted for a near complete ban on abortions, bathroom bills, book banning, restrictions on how teachers can talk about uncomfortable aspects of US history like slavery, the "trail of tears" lynchings, internment camps and racial prejudice.
He supports a presidential candidate who tried to over throw the government, who stole classified documents, calls our war dead "losers and suckers" and supports a war criminal who would rebuild the Iron Curtain. My generation lost 58,000 in war, some of them my friends and squadron mates. I flew in compromised missions and know of people killed because of blown intelligence. No one who supports such an individual should be elected to a federal office.
Four decades of trickle down economics has created a massive transfer of wealth that has made housing unaffordable for our younger generations and has increased our national deficit. We must reverse those policies.

Climate change is endangering our forests, air and water and we must move aggressively to reduce our carbon footprint. Transitioning to carbon free electrical energy for transportation and HVAC will slow climate change, improve our air and water quality and move the US rapidly toward energy independence.
longer terms, perhaps 4 years would reduce the constant need to campaign and raise money.
John L.ewis put his body on the line in protesting racial injustices and fought for it his entire life. Making "Good Trouble" was his calling card.
At the "Women's March" in Salt Lake City, I heard several stories of women with problematic pregnancies, lack of financial resources and involvement in domestic violence relationships whose lives were made enormously more difficult by restrictive abortion laws.
Compromise is essential. It starts with communication across cultural and policy differences to understand the opinions of others

Campaign website

Wright’s campaign website stated the following:

Trump and the Constitution
Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our Constitutional Republic. It is impossible to support him and our oath of office “to protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Personal Agency & Autonomy
I will defend personal Agency and bodily Autonomy and fight against Autocratic restrictions on women’s reproductive health and family planning decisions.

Environment/Climate
Climate Change is real. It is causing increased natural disasters, increasing involuntary migration, and producing trillions in economic losses. The principal effects on Utah are Drought, poor air quality, and forest fires. I support comprehensive plans to slow and reverse Climate Change.

Economy
The US economy is the envy of the developed world. Growth has exceeded that of all developed countries, and the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in decades. However, many have not benefited from the macro economy due to 40 years of income stratification that has placed most of the gains in the hands of the few. Housing has become increasingly unaffordable, and too many children go to bed hungry every night. We need policies that grow the economy from the bottom up, not the top down.

Debt and Deficit – Increased government efficiency is vital but will not solve more than 5%-10% of the problem. Three bouts of tax cuts that mostly benefited the wealthy have resulted in out-of-control deficits and ¾ of the accumulated debt. We need policies that reduce the cost and enhance the revenue of Social Security and Medicare while preserving the benefits.

Foreign/Military Policy
The US is strongest when we have strong allies. Policies that destroy our alliances make us weaker. The world faces increased challenges in eastern Europe, the Mid-East, and Southeast Asia. Our military and Alliances must be up to the challenge.

Veterans
Veterans' benefits are not “entitlements”. They were earned from the sacrifices made defending our country. We must support comprehensive veteran benefits, a robust and efficient Veterans Administration. The VA and FDA need to study better treatments for TBI/PTSD.[5]

I am running for Congress in a heavily Republican district. This is an opportunity for me, as a Democrat, to listen to a diverse community of interests and bring an alternative path to solving common problems facing our society. The incumbent and his primary challenger have ignored key issues facing the district: The Economy, Climate Change, Affordable Housing, Women's Health, Gun Violence. I have ideas that address those issues that reasonable people can agree on.
  • The current inflationary environment is on everyone's minds. While multi-year economic trends are difficult to control, there are concrete steps that we can take that can mitigate inflationary effects on individuals and their families and speed the recovery from inflation.s
  • Climate change is reducing the water available in our state, increasing the frequency of severe forest fires and negatively affecting the economic viability of many industries, including agriculture, winter sports, coal, oil and natural gas industries. There are effective strategies that are available to us to address these issues. They will require bi-partisan agreements to be successful.
  • Social issues such as women's health and gun violence can be devastating on society and solutions devisive. We must come together to addr4ess these issues.
Climate Change and its long term effects on our environment, population and economy must be a priority on personal, local, state, national and global levels.

My family is diverse from ethnic, racial and orientation standpoints. I am particularly intersted in promoting equality and equity for all.
FDR - his policies changed the US for the better
Cleaning bathrooms at the community pool in Annville PA
Yes. Experience in government teaches the limitations of government actions. It always takes longer than seems reasonable to accomplish things. Compromise is almost always necessary. Few get everything they want on the first try. Persistence and patience are necessary qualities.
The voters decide each person's term limit

Campaign website

Wright's campaign website stated the following:

Energy Security

The war in Ukraine has emphasized our need for secure and affordable energy. Electrification of transport, supported by locally produced renewable electrical energy will insulate us from price fluctuations and put a stake in the heart of petro-despots like Putin and others around the world.

Social issues

The Supreme Court's actions effecting women's Health, gun violence and the environment need attention from Congress.

Air Quality

Electrification of transport, supported by locally produced renewable electrical energy will also eliminate much of the air pollution that plagues the Wasatch Front and many other areas of Utah.

Economic Growth

Economic growth is uneven accross the District. Climate change and its effects and responses will have major influences on different parts of the district. Finding solutions NOW is vital for the future of all of our residents.[5]

—Wright's campaign website (2022)[7]

2014

Wright's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[8]

Healthcare

  • Excerpt: "Full Expansion of Medicaid is a no brainer."

Environment

  • Excerpt: "We must tighten air pollution standards, accelerate Tier 3 refining standards, encourage clean transportation and mass transportation and move from a carbon based energy economy to one with heavier reliance on renewables. Natural gas, in abundance in the Uintah basin, can be a vital bridge fuel, but only if exploited in the most environmentally sound manner. Better controls on emissions and fracking are necessary."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Quality Pre K education must be a cornerstone of our educational system."
  • Excerpt: "Higher education must be attainable for all. The Goal for Utah to have 2/3 of its population to attain at least a 2 year degree by 2020 is laudable, but is doomed to be only a talking point unless we take concrete steps to prepare our high school students for college and make college affordable for all."

Income Opportunity

  • Excerpt: "Every job should pay enough to lift a family out of poverty. A minimum wage that allows a family to save and build for the future and housing that does not so burden a household that advancement is impossible are critical to providing a base for the next generation to advance. A higher minimum wage also helps local businesses by providing more customers able to afford their products."

Human Rights

  • Excerpt: "We should not be wasting state taxpayer money defending the indefensible in court. Marriage equality is inevitable in the U.S. We need to move on. The next task is to pass non-discrimination legislation for the entire state."
  • Excerpt: "The legislature made great strides in passing immigration legislation. It must now pass a resolution ordering our Congressional Representatives to pass comprehensive immigration reform."
