Bothwell ran in the 2012 election for Idaho House of Representatives District 14B. She ran as a write-in candidate in the Democratic primary on May 15, 2012. She earned 53 votes, and gained fall ballot access with her victory. Incumbent Reed DeMordaunt (R) defeated Bothwell in the general election on November 6, 2012.[7][8]
