Opposition
Three of the five seats on the Renton Board of Directors were up for general election on November 3, 2015. Initially, all three incumbents up for re-election filed to seek new terms on the board, but one later withdrew from the race.
District 1 incumbent Todd Franceschina saw one challenger file to run against him, Sarah Sanoy-Wright; however, Sanoy-Wright withdrew from the race leaving Franceschina to win re-election without opposition. District 3 incumbent Lynn Desmarais, meanwhile, defeated challenger Larry Wright on the ballot.[3]
Initially, District 4 incumbent Denise Eider initially filed to seek re-election and would have faced challenger Larry Crim on the ballot. Eider, however, withdrew from the race which would have left Crim unopposed.[3] After the filing period, it was discovered that Crim did not live within the boundaries of the District 4 seat. He also withdrew from the race, necessitating a special filing period for the election. Gloria Hodge was the only person to file for the race during that time and won the seat unopposed.[4]

Campaign themes
2015
Hodge provided the following statement for the King County voters' pamphlet:
| “ | As an educator and parent of an elementary daughter, I’ve witnessed firsthand how good policies impact quality of the educational system. Volunteering in a high needs school, affirms my belief the areas of focus on how our children are educated and support staff fulfill obligations. A growing focus should be placed teaming with parents balancing dual roles as parents and providers for households.
Being part of the decision making mechanism, that’s capable of helping shape a future for the next generation through education is valuable to me. Renton is a diverse community with rich potentials along with many challenges. Working together, we can triumph over barriers in the way of helping children succeed. Invested in the community, I feel I can effectively represent voices. I’d be honored with your vote.[6] |
