Gloria White: A Record of Experience, Community Service, and Advocacy for Women’s Rights

With 25 years at FedEx Corporation as an executive payroll specialist, Gloria was honored to bring her extensive experience into her role as the first African American woman to be elected as Thornton Fractional Trustee of Schools. In this position, Gloria is responsible for overseeing the financial management and investment of over $125 million in educational funds in multiple school districts.

A lifelong Democrat and advocate for women's rights, Gloria focuses particularly on reproductive and human rights issues. She is a proponent of inclusivity and a supporter of legislative measures that address systemic inequalities, aiming to uphold the rights of women, girls, and minority groups. Gloria has been a resident of Calumet City for three decades, playing a vital role in the 29th District. She holds the position of secretary in the Southland Northeast Chamber of Commerce and member of the Southland Black Chamber of Commerce . Coordinator of the youth scholarship program Thornton Township serving 17 municipalities. Her efforts have been instrumental in providing over $1 million in scholarships to 85 local students, contributing to their educational and vocational training opportunities. Gloria also dedicates her time as a volunteer at the Thornton Township Food Pantry and Assist in numerous outreach ministries.

  • Defending Women’s Rights Gloria is dedicated to championing women's rights, aiming to secure comprehensive reproductive healthcare and enforce equal pay in Illinois. As a state representative, she's focused on safeguarding reproductive rights as a core principle, ensuring accessibility regardless of federal changes like Roe v. Wade. Committed to inclusivity, she actively supports legislation addressing systemic inequalities, advocating for the rights of not just women and girls, but also minorities. Her efforts are geared towards creating an equitable society where race, gender, sexual orientation, identity, and economic status do not dictate opportunities. Gloria's vision is to establish Illinois as a model state.
  • Combating Gun Violence Gloria advocates for practical gun regulations to safeguard families while upholding First Amendment rights. Recognizing gun violence as a major issue, particularly in Chicago's Southland, she is dedicated to working with various government levels to strictly regulate dangerous weapons. Her focus is on tackling the root causes of gun violence, providing law enforcement with the tools to fight violent crime and halt the spread of illegal firearms. Gloria champions state-backed anti-violence programs, educational initiatives in schools, and improved services in violence-stricken, underfunded communities.
  • Enhancing Education & Youth Financial Aid Gloria is deeply committed to enhancing public education including higher education, and job training, in Illinois. Gloria advocates for increasing state funding for public schools, universities, and community colleges, focusing on both education quality and tuition assistance. Recognizing the challenges faced by working families in affording higher education and job training, she is determined to introduce and expand state-funded scholarship programs and grants. These financial aids will be designed to cater to diverse needs, including merit-based, need-based assistance, and support for specific demographics such as first-generation college students.
