Gordon Johnson (Democratic Party) is a member of the New Jersey State Senate, representing District 37. He assumed office on January 11, 2022. His current term ends on January 11, 2028.
Johnson (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the New Jersey State Senate to represent District 37. He won in the general election on November 7, 2023.
Johnson was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing District 37 from 2002 to 2022. Johnson served as the deputy speaker of the Assembly. He previously served as majority conference leader from 2012 to 2013 and as deputy conference leader from 2010 to 2011.
Biography
Gordon Johnson served in the U.S. Army Reserve and reached the rank of major. Johnson earned a B.S. in social science and criminal justice from St. Thomas Aquinas College and an M.A. in administration and supervision from Seton Hall University. His career experience includes working as an independent consultant, a sheriff and undersheriff with the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, and a patrol sergeant with the Englewood Police Department.[1][2]

2017
General election
Elections for the New Jersey General Assembly took place in 2017. All 80 seats were up for election. State assembly members are elected to two-year terms. The general election took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on June 6, 2017. The filing deadline for the primary election was April 3, 2017.[3] Legislative districts in the New Jersey General Assembly are multi-member districts, with two representatives in each district. In Democratic and Republican primary elections, the top two candidates move forward to the general election, and the top two candidates in the general election are declared the winners.[4] Incumbent Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D) and incumbent Gordon Johnson (D) defeated Gino Tessaro (R), Angela Hendricks (R), and Claudio Belusic (Libertarian) in the New Jersey General Assembly District 37 general election.[5][6]

2015
Elections for the New Jersey General Assembly took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 2, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 30, 2015.[10] Since the general assembly uses multi-member districts, the top two candidates from each party in the primaries advanced to the general election. Incumbent Gordon Johnson and incumbent Valerie Vainieri Huttle were bracketed together and were unopposed in the Democratic primary. Joseph Fiscella and Gino Tessaro were bracketed together and were unopposed in the Republican primary. Johnson and Vainieri Huttle defeated Fiscella and Tessaro in the general election.[11][12][13][14][15]
2013
Johnson won re-election in the 2013 election for New Jersey General Assembly District 37. Johnson was bracketed with Valerie Vainieri Huttle. He was unopposed in the June 4 Democratic primary. He and Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D) defeated Dierdre Paul (R) and Gino Tessaro (R) in the general election, which took place on November 5, 2013.[16][17][18][19]

Johnson won re-election in 2011. He and incumbent Valerie Vainieri Huttle ran unopposed in the June 7 Democratic primary. They then defeated Keith Jensen (R), Gregory Aslanian (R), and Julian Heicklen (L) in the November 8, 2011, general election.[22]
