Gov. Carcieri nominates five to state courts

Rhode Island: On October 22, 2010, Governor Donald Carcieri announced five nominations for the Superior and District Courts.
- Brian Van Couyghen, nominated to the Superior Court, to succeed Gilbert V. Indeglia;
- Sarah Taft-Carter, nominated to the Superior Court, to succeed Alice B. Gibney;
- Walter R. Stone, also nominated to the Superior Court, to succeed O. Rogeriee Thompson;
- Stephen Isherwood, nominated to the District Court, to succeed Jeanne E. LaFazia; and
- Colleen M. Hastings, currently a Magistrate of the Rhode Island Family Court, was nominated to succeed Michael A. Higgins on the District Court.[1]
Each nominee was selected by the governor from lists created by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Now, each nominee must be confirmed by a majority of the Rhode Island Senate before taking office.[1][2]
