The county government of Miami-Dade County is located in Miami, Florida. The county was first established in 1836. It covers a total of 1,897.72 square miles in southern Florida.[1]

Miami-Dade County, Florida, held general elections for mayor, clerk of the circuit court and comptroller, property appraiser, public defender, sheriff, state attorney, supervisor of elections, tax collector, county commission, Midtown Miami Community Development District, circuit court judges, and county court judges on November 5, 2024. A primary was scheduled for August 20, 2024. The filing deadline for judicial seats was April 26, 2024, and the filing deadline for non-judicial seats was June 14, 2024.
2022
Miami-Dade County, Florida, held general elections for county commission, soil & water conservation district board, community development districts, circuit court judges, and county court judges on November 8, 2022. A primary was scheduled for August 23, 2022. The filing deadline for this election was June 17, 2022.
2020
Miami-Dade County, Florida, held general elections for county mayor, county commissioner districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13, state attorney, public defender, county property appraiser, county judge, clerk of the circuit court, special districts, and South Dade Soil and Water Conservation District on November 3, 2020. A primary was scheduled for August 18, 2020. The filing deadline for this election was June 12, 2020.
2018
Miami-Dade County, Florida, held general elections for county commissioner and soil & water conservation board members on November 6, 2018. If a race had more than two candidates for a party nomination, a primary was held on August 28, 2018. There was also a special election for District 5 of the Miami-Dade County Commission on May 22, 2018. A runoff was held on June 19, 2018.
2016
Miami-Dade County held elections for county commissioner, special district, and three other officials in 2016. Primary elections for county seats were held on August 30, 2016, though these primaries were functionally general elections. A general election was held on November 8, 2016, between the top two vote recipients in any race where no candidate received the majority of primary votes. Unopposed elections were canceled and did not appear on the ballot.

Special districts are a form of local government that exist to fulfill a specific purpose within a certain geographic area. This region can be as large as a county or smaller than a city block. Special districts have the power to tax their local residents in order to fund operational expenditures. Although a special district may be formed for any stated purpose, the most common examples include library, hospital, transportation, airport, utility, conservation, sanitation, fire control, and flood control districts.
Midtown Miami Community Development District
The Midtown Miami Community Development District is responsible for overseeing land acquisition, planning, and maintenance of improvement projects for planned communities in Miami. A five-member board oversees the district's work with each member elected to a four-year term.[3]
