Vermont: Barry D. Peterson has been appointed as a Magistrate Judge of the Vermont Superior Courts by Governor Peter Shumlin.[1]
“Barry’s broad experience, both in law and in his community, make him the perfect fit for Family Division Magistrate. He has already served in this role in an acting capacity, so he’ll hit the ground running.” said Governor Shumlin.[1]
In addition to Peterson's serving as an Acting Magistrate, he has also served as an Acting Judge in Lamoille Superior Court on small claims cases. Furthermore, Peterson has been a Cooperating Attorney with Vermont Legal Aid/Law Line of Vermont. As a Cooperating Attorney, Peterson has helped low-income Vermonters since 2005 by doing extensively reduced fee bankruptcy cases and serving as the Guardian Ad Litem in many family law cases.[1]
Peterson graduated from the Pace University in New York in 1980 and from the Vermont Law School in 1985. In 1988, Peterson, along with his wife Lori J. Ruple, started the law firm Peterson & Ruple in Jericho, where the office is located. Peterson has worked in mainly family law and in representing clients in cases involving real estate, small business and personal injury matters, in addition to bankruptcy.[1]
As a helping hand in his community, Peterson has helped to coach youth sports and has served as a member of the Fletcher Elementary School board for the years of 1993-2005.[1]
