Minnesota: Governor Mark Dayton has appointed Wilhelmina Wright to the Minnesota Supreme Court. Wright will succeed Justice Helen Meyer, who stepped down from the court earlier this month. [1]

Justice Wright has served on the Minnesota Court of Appeals for ten years, after being appointed by Governor Jesse Ventura. Prior to that, she served the Second Judicial District.[2]

In the press release announcing the appointment, Governor Dayton said:

Judge Wright has proven her exceptional judiciary skills by authoring over 700 opinions during her decade serving on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. I read several of her opinions before making my decision. I was greatly impressed by her exceptional intellect, her written communication skills and, most importantly, her excellent judgment. I believe that she will serve the people of Minnesota with great distinction on our Supreme Court.[1] [3]

Justice Wright must run for the seat in 2014 election if she wishes to continue serving. She is Governor Dayton's first appointee to the Supreme Court. To see other judges appointed by Governor Dayton, visit: Judges appointed by Mark Dayton.
