Georgia: This week Governor Nathan Deal announced the appointment of Robert D. Alexander to the Jackson County State Court. Alexander will join the court after taking the oath of office in April, filling a seat that has been vacant since the death of Jerry C. Gray in October 2010.[1]

Alexander has been a judge on the Jefferson Municipal Court since 2003. During that time, he also worked in the private practice of law. Of the appointment, Alexander said, "I am certainly honored to have been chosen by the governor, and I'm looking forward to getting to work and serving the litigants who come before me."[2]

The term of appointment expires in December 2012, meaning that Alexander must run for election to the seat in the general election of November 2012 if he wishes to continue serving. At that point, he would serve a full four-year term.[3]
