Connecticut: Yesterday, Governor Dan Malloy announced the appointment of two judges, one to the Connecticut Appellate Court and one to the Connecticut Superior Court.

Michael R. Sheldon was nominated to the Appellate Court after serving on the Superior Court since 1991. Sybil Richards was nominated to the Superior Court. She has been Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City of Stamford since 2000.[1]

Of the appointments, the governor said:

Both Judge Sheldon and Sybil Richards have the experience, temperament and skills to be thoughtful, reasoned and fair jurists. Judge Sheldon has distinguished himself in both the academic world and on the bench. His reputation in the legal community and among his judicial colleagues is stellar. He tackles both large and small cases with the same level of dedication, insight and attention, and those attributes will serve the citizens of the state well when he is on the Appellate Court.[2]

Both nominees must be confirmed by the Judiciary Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly before they can join the respective courts. Once the legislature reconvenes, the full body will vote whether to approve the nominations as well.[2]
