Indianapolis, Indiana: Indiana governor Mitch Daniels has appointed Mark S. Massa, attorney of Indianapolis, to the vacancy on the Indiana Supreme Court. Massa will fill the vacancy left by retiring Chief Justice Randall Shepard.[1][2][3] Though he will be filling the vacancy left by Shepard, Massa will not necessarily become Chief Justice. The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission will select the Chief Justice at some time in the future.
Massa joined many other applicants in his bid for a seat on the court. He faced Indiana Court of Appeals judge Cale Bradford and Director of the Indiana Judicial Center Jane A. Seigel in the final round.
