Governor proposes 30% cut in Connecticut state agencies
February 11, 2011
Connecticut: Yesterday, new Governor Dan Malloy proposed a 30 percent reduction in budgeted state agencies. The current number of agencies is 81. Under the new plan, 27 would be restructured and 3 will be created.[1]
This realignment would affect two aspects of the judiciary: the Judicial Review Council and the Judicial Selection Commission. The first, which handles complaints of misconduct in the judicial branch, would be merged into the newly created Office of Governmental Accountability. Other agencies under this newly created one would be the Contracting Standards Board, Elections Enforcement Commission, Freedom of Information Commission and the Office of State Ethics. The Judicial Selection Commission would be merged into the Department of Administrative Services, along with part of the Department of Information Technology.[1]
