Elections

Voter and candidate information

The Grand Island Board of Education consists of nine members elected by district to four-year terms. Members are elected to one of the three geographical wards. A primary election was not necessary since the number of candidates who file to run in the election was not more than double the number of seats up for election. The general election was held on November 8, 2016. The board members elect a president and vice-president during the board meeting in January.[3]

To be elected to the board, candidates must reside in the boundaries of the school district and be a registered voter.[3][4]

Candidates had until March 1, 2016, to file their nomination papers. Incumbents had to file by February 15, 2016.[5]
