A Grand Rapids City Comptroller Selection Amendment proposal was on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Kent County, which is in Michigan where it was defeated.
This measure proposed to amend the Grand Rapids City Charter to alter the way that the City Comptoller is selected.[1]

Language on the ballot:
| “ | Proposed amendment to Title II (City officers and departments) and Title VI (Appointive officers and employees) of the charter of the city of Grand Rapids. The purpose of this amendment is to alter the process by which the City Comptroller is selected. The City Comptroller would no longer be elected by the qualified electors of the City, but would be appointed by the City Manager subject to the approval of the City Commission. There would be no change to the City Charter's description of the powers, duties, or responsibilities of the City Comptroller.[1][2] | ” |
