Grand Rapids Income Tax Increase (May 2010)
There was a Grand Rapids Income Tax Increase measure on the May 4 ballot in Kent County for voters in the city of Grand Rapids.
This measure was approved
- YES 9,763
- NO 9,559[1]
City officials held a special election for this measure because they were in need of money and believed it was better to have the money sooner, as early as July 1, rather than waiting for the regular elections in August or November. The proposed income increase was near $7 million since this measure was approved. Significant budget cuts were on the agenda if the measure was not approved.[2]
