My name is Grant Michael Blood II, I was born in Grand Rapids, and raised in Ionia by my father, a UAW committee person at the old Fisher Body plant, who taught me about the dedication and hardwork of the auto workers that built the vehicles that Lansing is known for and my mother a United States Postal Service letter carrier that always pushed me to keep going in life no matter the challenges. I have for the better part of fifteen years years lived, worked and set up roots in the Lansing area and I'm very happy to call Lansing my home. Ten of those fifteen years were spent working as a Safety and Security Manager at a local non profit vocational rehab in Lansing and for the last two years as a Physical Security Specialist at a East Lansing based large financial institution. In my career at both organizations I have specialized in security design, CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design), De-Escalation tactics and active violence response training. I hold a bachelor of science degree from Ferris State University in Criminal Justice and multiple safety and security professional certifications. I am the current young professionals liaison with the ASIS (American Society for Industrial Security) Mid-Michigan Chapter and an active member in numerous other security groups.
I believe that my knowledge of criminal justice and de-escalation could be invaluable as well as my knowledge as a project manager in large scale construction projects and other corporate projects I have taken a lead role in. The partnerships that I have cultivated with various community members will allow me to bring a different perspective to the table and make meaningful change one step at a time.
Local government tends to affect people more directly then the higher offices and in our current political climate this is not a business as usual position and there needs to be more done for the betterment of our community.
My biggest hero and the person I spent a lot of my childhood with was my grandfather, he was a WWII vet and Pearl Harbor survivor. The man taught me so much in the 7 years he was around in my life that made me the person I am today.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”–George Santayana,
They must be honest hard working people, there is no need for our elected officials to have ulterior motives or grudges when seeking office.
I believe the event that had the largest impact on my life was 9/11, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. When 9/11 occurred I was a freshman in high school and remember the helplessness that I believe all of us felt that day.
I grew up on a dairy farm in Ionia County Michigan and worked on the family farm or friends farm until high school graduation. My first job/career was 10 years as a Safety and Security manager at a local non profit, vocational rehabilitation government contractor in Lansing Michigan
Rifles for Watie, because its a coming of age novel during the western campaigns of the American Civil War and shows hardship and growth of a young northern boy running from home to defend his nation.
I am sure that it could be entertaining to be any fictional character for a while, but being myself and living my life to the fullest is all that I need.
One of the largest struggles in my life was the length of time it took me to gain my degree, I was not able to be a typical student that went away for four years to gain it. I needed to work full time and attend limited class schedules per semester often in the evening. The cost of education makes it unattainable for most and I have seen that first hand, and our nation needs to do better about educating our youth and making it affordable.
I don't have a favorite, but my wife tells me my dad jokes are getting better :)
