I have been a physician in my community for over 25 years only leaving to serve as a Trauma Surgeon in the US Army with one tour in Iraq and Kuwait and two tours in Afghanistan. I also currently serve as Vice-Chairman of the NC State Board of Community Colleges as well as a board member on The Independence Fund which serves wounded veterans and their families. I am a proud and unapologetic Conservative who believes that office holders need to be more accountable to their constituents.
  • I stand for limited government that must be a better steward of the tax dollars that they receive from hard-working North Carolinians.
  • I believe that rural communities in NC need to have the same educational and healthcare opportunities as metropolitan areas.
  • I believe the greatest economic stimulus as governing body can do for the people is decide to take less of their hard-earned money in the first place.
Healthcare, veterans issues, and education.
My grandfather. He was a Marine pilot who served in both World War II and Korea. He was an exceptionally giving and honorable man.
An elected official must have humility and accountability. This should not be an opportunity for personal advancement, but rather a chance to serve the people of your community. Officials must communicate regularly with their constituents and be accessible to them.
I was a paperboy for two years in my pre-teen years delivering the local paper on my bicycle.
Of course. Good legislation comes from collaboration and relying on the expertise of others. No one person has all the answers.
Haven't given that one moment of thought. If you are focused on what's next, you will likely do a poor job of what you are responsible for right now.
Reps. Kristin Baker, Harry Warren, David Willis, Dean Arp, Howard Penny. Sen. Paul Newton. COL (Ret) Russ Olson.
Both of these items are absent in current governmental operations, but should be the foundation of any governing body.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in North Carolina

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
