Grant Goodrich participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 10, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Grant Goodrich's responses follow below.[2]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Preserve and enhance social security and medicare 2) Supporting America's working families, to include affordable and accessible healthcare and paid family leave |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | I am personally passionate about public policy issues that make America a better place to live, work and raise a family, and policy issues that preserve and protect the environment for current and future generations. My candidacy is driven by my passion for these issues because of a strong desire to build a better nation for my family, my friends, my community, and our nation. My views have been shaped by my vast and diverse professional experiences, my history of service to our nation, and through my devotion to my family.
I am running because I am a patriot, and I feel a calling to use my skills and talents to serve my country and Northeast Ohio. Through my foreign and security policy experience from the U.S. Marine Corps, my energy technology and policy engagement in my current role as the Director of the energy institute at Case Western Reserve, and in-depth involvement in the region’s economy through my time at Team NEO, I have more experience finding solutions to our region’s biggest challenges than any of the other candidates, and a proven history of service. I am also a candidate for this office because of my family; because I want my son to grow up in a better country than I know now, a country where his peers and friends will not grow up in the shadow of the opioid epidemic, a country where, with good planning, he’ll be able to afford a college education, a country where he’ll be able to find a good job, and a country where his hard work will be appreciated and rewarded.Cite error: Invalid |

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Grant Goodrich answered the following:
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
“ | Honesty, integrity, and a willingness and ability to listen! I am running because we need people in Congress of the highest integrity – people who respect and value America’s diverse population, cultural traditions, and religious beliefs.[4] | ” |
“ | I believe that we need to leave the world a better place than before, and would apply the same principle to my time in elected office. I would like a legacy of having improved the quality of life and opportunity for all Americans. I would also like a legacy of making great progress towards improving the environment, reducing pollution, and increasing adoption of clean energy technology.[4] | ” |
“ | Thanksgiving. It wasn't always that day, but I very clearly remember celebrating Thanksgiving when I was deployed to Iraq. Each Thanksgiving since then I find myself remembering that day, and giving thanks for all the many blessings in my life.[4] | ” |
“ | I like to say that "home is where the heart is" - my wife and my son are the two people who make our house our home. Without them, nothing else is special![4] | ” |
“ | "Running down a dream" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers[4] | ” |
“ | I think it's incredibly important that representatives have experiences and qualifications that translate to their intended service in the federal government, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they need to have had previous experience in government or politics.[4] | ” |
“ | No. It's too short, and representatives spend too much of their elected term running for office. I would recommend 4 years.[4] | ” |
“ | I would prefer to see an impartial body draw the congressional districts, with clear guidelines that would prevent a County or community from being divided more than once.[4] | ” |
