Graves nominated to Fifth Circuit
June 11, 2010
Washington, D.C.: Yesterday, President Obama nominated James Graves to fill a vacancy on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. About the appointment, Obama said, "Throughout his career James E. Graves has shown unwavering integrity and an outstanding commitment to public service."[1]
Graves has served as a Mississippi Supreme Court justice since appointed in 2001 by Governor Ronnie Musgrove. He was elected to the seat in 2004. Prior to his service on the court, Graves spent ten years as a judge on the Seventh Circuit Court in Mississippi. Throughout his career, he has performed as counsel in a variety of public agencies.[2]
Graves' confirmation now rests in the hands of the Senate. After reviewing his career and assessing his potential as a federal judge, the Senate Judiciary Committee will make their recommendation to the full Senate.
