Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Garrett's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Immigration: For far too long, career politicians in Washington D.C. have passed on the burden of securing our border onto the state. It is time we had leadership in Congress to say enough is enough! We must reject amnesty, eliminate all welfare benefits for illegal immigrants, put an end to sanctuary cities, and secure our border.
  • National Security & Counterterrorism: The Obama Administration has embraced our enemies, dismissed our allies, and shrunk our military, while Isis and other terrorist groups continue to grow in power. We must ensure that our military is second to none in the world and that our men and women in uniform have the equipment and training they need to conduct safe and successful missions.
  • Gun Rights: I believe our Second Amendment is pretty clear when it comes to gun rights: “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” I will fight to expand gun rights and ensure Congress makes no laws harming gun owners.
  • Pro-Life: I am 100% pro-life and will support all initiatives aimed at ending or limiting abortions.
  • Agriculture: West Texas provides the food, fiber, and fuel for much of our state and nation. The health of West Texas agriculture is truly an issue of national security. I will stand tall for West Texas farmers and ranchers against the EPA and other threats from Washington D.C. I will fight hard to protect our private property rights and water rights.
