Campaign themes

2016

LaFleur's campaign website listed the following themes:

Job Creation
My strength is my ability to identify, cultivate and recruit. I have prided myself on an ability to bridge communication between diverse stakeholders and to build enduring relationships at all levels government and with partners at the state and national level. My top priority is to continue to bring new jobs to Baton Rouge.

Public Safety
Develop one of the most comprehensive police training program in this country. Give greater support to continuing education for department heads down to the person answering the phone. Enhance our community base relations by educating our citizens with the basic laws that we deal with every day. We need to educate not incarcerate. Once a member of our Baton Rouge family is labeled as a felon, it prohibits him or her from reaching their full potential. Continue to support our fire and emergency response team to maintain its Class 1 rating.

Transportation
Will aggressively pursue federal funds for more thoroughfares running north & south and east & west which will enhance and make our public transportation more efficient while cutting down commuter time.

Education
Will work with the school system to create a partnership with city government and the private sector to develop an alternative school that specialize in curriculums that students can immediately find jobs upon graduation. We are fortunate to have two major universities and a first class community college in our city. It is important that the three campuses are included in all our planning for the future. [2]
