What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

“ 1) Increase educational opportunity

2) Better financial position for working people
3) Combat the opiate epidemic[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

“ Wages for working folks. Over the last few decades wages for working people have stagnated and the middle class has been evaporating. I grew up without a ton and I want to see economic power returned to the working middle class. A big part of that is educational opportunity and the ability to pursue a career that supports a person and their family. Finally, I've seen the opiate/heroin epidemic swallow up part of a generation while contributing to crime and unemployment. We have to change how we address this or we'll keep getting the same results.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3] ”

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

“ Harlan County, USA.[3] ”
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
“ Transparency and accountability. We may not always agree on policy but it's important that the public always know why so that government is responsive to them rather than special interests.[3] ”
What legacy would you like to leave?
“ I want people to see that their representation doesn't have to be politics as usual. That their representative can be honestly look out for their interests rather than be beholden to money.[3] ”
Do you believe that it's beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
“ No. I'm proud of the fact that I've never run for anything. Experience can be helpful but a representative should come from the community.[3] ”
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
“ Developing a budget and fiscal policy that allows us to invest in the necessary infrastructure to attract industry and growth while at the same time protecting working people from regressive tax policy.[3] ”
What process do you favor for redistricting?
“ A bipartisan board with oversight that draws lines based upon community rather than for partisan advantage.[3] ”
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
“ My background is in law and criminal justice so I'd be happy to be on the judiciary committee. I will represent an agricultural area so I would want to make sure my people had a voice there.[3] ”
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
“ Although Rand Paul and I disagree on a lot of policy I respect his willingness to say what he believes without regard to what his party wants.[3] ”
