A group health plan generally refers to an insurance plan offered by an employer to their employees. Group health plans are often considered a large part of the employer's benefits packages.[1]
Overview
A group health plan is a policy purchased by an employer from an insurance company and offered to their employees. Group health plans are often a large part of a company's benefits package. According to the National Association of Health Underwriters, as of 2016, most Americans were insured through their employer, or through the employer of a family member or spouse. The Affordable Care Act required employers with at least 50 full-time equivalent employees to offer health insurance to at least 95 percent of their full-time employees.[2]
