My name is Guerdy Remy and I'm running to be the Democratic Nominee for FL State Senate District 9. I am a proven advocate who is pro-worker and pro-union. As a Nurse, Case Manager, and Activist, I have seen the direct impacts that Tallahassee's negligence has had on our community. I commit to fight for affordable housing, increasing access to healthcare, raising the minimum wage to a living wage, and fully funding public education, Reproductive Rights and Freedom, LGBTQ+ protection, stricter gun laws, empowering the Black and Brown communities, as well as many other issues. District 9 needs a passionate, dependable advocate who is present in the community and fights for justice, and I will bring my passion, long-time activism, and knowledge of legislation to fight for our communities to have justice.

  • Fully Fund Public Schools by: Ending Public Funds to Charter and Private Schools, Increasing Pay for Teachers, Support Staff, and Non-Instructional Personnel, Canceling High Stakes Testing, Investing in Public Colleges, and Fully Funding the Bright Futures Program.
  • Protect Vulnerable Communities by: Enforcing Human Rights Protections for the LGBTQ+ Community, Repealing Legislation That Takes Away Reproductive Rights, Protect Our Environment and Our Climate, banning private prisons, the unfair cash bail system, Decriminalizing Cannabis, Enacting a Livable Wage, and Enacting Strong Gun Control laws.
To protect our environment and our climate from dangerous organizations and

legislation that reduces or eliminates accountability due to inappropriate relationships
between big business and politics. To protect our most endangered species and
prevent unlawful and harmful hunting and killings of our most precious animals and
different species in our state. To combat these effects, we have to hold Big Sugar,
Big Business/Corps accountable for their destructive tactics against our environment,
and stand with organizations that have been advocating for environmental safety and

climate justice.
I look up to my grand-mother, she is also my legal mother, after my mother was murdered when I was 9 years old, leaving behind 3 children.

My grand-mother raised us three with her other 8 remaining children in NYC. She worked as a Personal Care Assistant and an Office Cleaner in NYC.

She raised all of us with love, and cared so much for us, while being a strong Black Haitian American Woman. I never felt like we were deprived of anything. She instilled hope, love, positive thinking, ambition, drive, goals, loving people for who they are, not judging anyone, diversity, independence, and never giving up mentality in all of us. I don't know how she did it all of those years, but she was a union member, and raised us on those values.

I have very good assessment skills, and am able to recognize a need and a solution for that need.
My legacy to leave behind is that I am an Activist that went into politics to put people over profit, and put people first, and that I was able to have people unite to create positive generational changes, that empowered communities to become self-sufficient and self-sustaining without prejudice.
I am a Black Haitian American Woman who was raised in NYC. I've seen how our communities were treated with the AIDS crisis and the 4-H's (Haitians, Homosexuals, Hemophilia, and Heroin). We were lumped into a non-human factor, left untreated, allowed to die alone, ostracized, and feared. When I was 17 years old in high school, I went to donate blood and was told that, "people of Haitian decent couldn't donate blood" and I was denied in front of my schoolmates.

I was very embarrassed and told my family while crying, because it was said that 'Haitians, had AIDS."

The New York Haitian community initiated a rally from Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall in Manhattan. My whole family, and I went as well as Haitians from other states, and other allies. We demanded an apology and for Haiti to be taken off of the list of having AIDS and not be stigmatized. Eventually we received a public apology from NYC's Mayor and City Hall, it took years later for Haiti to be off of the list. That was my first rally and call to action.
My very first job was at Brooklyn Hospital when I was 16 years old as a volunteer cuddle and feed newborns who had "Failure to Thrive" because they were born addicted to crack through the parent, and also those who were born with HIV+ blood serum, and was not eating well, as well as crying a lot due to the inability to be comforted. I went and swaddled and cuddled with them, to give them a "human touch" so that they will be able to eat.
Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Book by Dr. Seuss

This book is such a representation of life. We give it as graduation gifts to school age children, but it's for all ages.
Most of the fictional characters are not of Black Women, so I can relate to them at the time that I am watching or reading their stories. However, when I am back in my own environment, there is no positive representation of our lives in fictional characters. So, I would like my life to one day inspire a fictional character that a young Black child would want to be. As for me, my grand-mother is my pretend fictional character that I would want to be, her strength and love.

My mother's murder, it has yet to be solved. I pray that one we will find closure.
Florida's State Senators, create laws and propose amendments to the Florida Constitution. FL State Senators also try the officials that are impeached by the FL House, and confirms some of the Executive appointments. The Florida House Reps have have similar job duties with the exception that the FL House have the power to impeach officials, which are then tried by the FL Senate.
I think that it is beneficial if the State Legislator had some direct connection with the voters and the issues at hand, either through advocacy or having knowledge on bills and legislation that are passed or introduced.
Improve Health Care Outcomes:

Expanding Medicaid Eligibility, Fighting for Medicare
For All, Health care for the Coronavirus Pandemic affected communities,
and Increasing Funding for Social Programs.
Fully Fund Public Schools:
Ending Public Funds to Charter and Private Schools,
Increasing Pay for Teachers, Support Staff, and
Non-Instructional Personnel, Canceling High Stakes
Testing, Investing in Public Colleges, and Fully Funding
the Bright Futures Program.
Protect Vulnerable Communities:
Enacting a Livable Wage, and fixing the broken unemployment system,
Enforcing Human Rights Protections for the LGBTQ+
Community, Repealing Legislation That Takes Away
Reproductive Rights, Protect Our Environment and
Our Climate, banning private prisons, the unfair cash

bail system, Decriminalizing Cannabis, Enacting Strong Gun Control laws, Immigration and protection for undocumented communities.
The Trifecta that has ruled our state for over two decades is an example of what a relationship between the Governor and State Legislator, where the focus is on profits, big business and big sugar, and not the voice of the state or it's communities.
There should be a "checks and balance" system that holds the Governor and State Legislators accountable to the people, and for the two groups to work in unison to create a Florida, where our residents can be empowered and strive for a better future, because people matter.
It is beneficial to build relationships with legislators, unity is needed to create, and pass positive forward moving bills that will elevate our state out of the economic and health crisis.
I am very against redistricting, and want to work on getting rid of, redlining, rezoning, redistricting, gerrymandering and other rules that further divides the Black and Brown community's voting voice and voting power, income, and financial advancement, the ability to own their own property and small businesses, and keeping our Black and Brown students in underfunded, and under-performing schools.

Ethics and Elections EE
When elected, I would like to work on the issues of District 9, and focus on them first. If leadership comes at a later date, I will welcome it.
For now, my priority is to help solve some of our distressing situations in our district and Florida.
I am focusing on winning my election for Florida State Senate, for District 9. We have so much work that needs to be done for our district. My goal is help create a district that works for the people with legislators that puts people first. There's no other office in my mind, except SD-9.
I am a Nurse, Case Manager, and Activist, there are hundreds of stories and each of them is harder to digest. There's too many stories of people not being able to buy insulin and keep their utilities on. Stories about homeless veterans sleeping in there cars because they can't afford rent and can't find a job. Tons and tons of stories and difficulties in my district, and I hear them and feel their pain and anguish, that's why I'm running for office.
