Campaign themes
2014
Paulson's campaign website listed the following themes for the 2014 race:
“ | Hello, my name is Dr. Gunnar Paulson and I am running for re-election to the Alachua County School Board District 3. I have served our school district in various capacities since 1970. In 2010 it was my privilege to be elected to our school board. During my tenure on the board I have served as vice-chairman in 2013 and presently serve as the chairman. I have been married for 47 years and my wife Cindy is a retired school teacher who spent her entire career in Alachua County. My wife and I have always felt that if you wanted a quality education for your children that Alachua County was the place to live. My two daughters are graduates of Alachua County Public Schools. Thanks to the excellent education they received, both went on to attend and graduate from the University of Florida and are now teaching in public schools. Presently I have two grandsons attending school in our district. I want my grandsons, as well as every other child in Alachua County, to have the same opportunities as my daughters.Four years ago I stated we were facing an uncertain future that threatened the quality of education for our children. Taxpayers deserved someone who knew what was at stake and who was experienced in the strategies that would preserve our precious birthright-a public education. I stated to voters at that time I would stand for fiscal discipline, local control of our schools, career-technical education, robust funding for the arts and that we would develop a vision and a plan ensuring that every child counts. We have accomplished a lot during my first term. Among the accomplishments is renewing the one mill and developing a strategic plan that gives the district a vision with a plan to accomplish that vision. Most importantly we are presently in the process of hiring a new superintendent to institute that plan. Our work has just begun. I have shown I have the experience, strength and vision to meet the challenges we are facing and complete the work we have started. This is why I am asking for the honor to serve our district for four more years. | ” |
