Campaign themes

2015

Hartmann's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

Community

  • Excerpt: "Seattle is the fastest growing big city in the nation, and a substantial portion of the new residents are in the seventh district. With growth comes amazing opportunities to instill these fast-growing neighborhoods with the strong sense of community found in the more established neighborhoods of the district. Strong neighborhoods are key to a vibrant city and there is no better time to ensure that these urban villages truly become part of Seattle instead of isolated islands."

Transportation

  • Excerpt: "Traffic has become steadily worse. The public transit system is at capacity as well as being stuck in that same traffic. With the increased density, alternate transportation is desperately needed. Accommodating pedestrians with better timed crossing signals and protection from construction closures. Promoting bicycles with additional lanes and cycle tracks. Making public transit more frequent to all neighborhoods, allowing more people to rely on it instead of driving."

Housing

  • Excerpt: "Despite the increase in the overall housing supply, the quantity of affordable housing is dangerously low. Even older properties are pricing out residents as rents rise in tandem with the new housing prices. There are a number of options that the Council has yet to explore fully to keep our district a place for everyone."

Safety

  • Excerpt: "Safety is a major concern in the nightlife areas in our districts. Making law enforcement more a part of the community would reduce escalating incidents and provide a safer backdrop for the vibrant entertainment this city offers. Let’s stay a popular and safe urban recreation destination."
