Impartial analysis
The following impartial analysis of the measure was prepared by the office of the Gustine City Attorney:
“ |
The Measure, if approved by a majority of the voters voting on the measure, would enact Ordinance No. 484 amending Section 2-2-31 of the Gustine Municipal Code to change the term of the office of Mayor from two (2) years to four (4) years. The Mayor performs all duties assigned by the Gustine Municipal Code and applicable state law. The Mayor serves on the City Council and acts as the presiding officer of the City Council meetings, and is responsible for the maintenance of order and decorum at all meetings. The Mayor also signs City of Gustine ordinances and resolutions adopted by the City Council, and other official documents of the City as may be required. Further, the Mayor appoints persons to serve on certain City commissions and boards subject to City Council ratification. The Mayor of the City is currently elected every two years. The Measure would amend the Gustine Municipal Code to provide that the Mayor is elected every four years. If the Measure is approved by a majority of voters voting on the question, the Ordinance to change the change the term of office of Mayor will take effect ten (10) days after the date the City Council declares the results of the election. The Measure was placed on the ballot by resolution of the City Council adopted on June 5, 2018.[2] |
