Campaign themes

2016

Palumbo's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Solving our traffic and transportation crisis:

  • During the 2015 legislative session, Guy created a grassroots movement focused on fixing the transportation problems on RT 522. The group was successful in securing $10 million in funding from the legislature. We need a State Senator that understands how traffic gridlock impacts our families and local businesses, and will ensure our community gets its fair share of transportation dollars.

Prioritizing education:

  • The State Senate has jeopardized our public schools with inaction on McCleary and the levy cliff. The never‐ending special sessions and lack of compromise in Olympia have put our next generation at risk. We need legislators with private sector experience and a track record of success solving complex issues. The next State Senator from the 1st District needs to demand action to ensure innovation, great teachers, and accountability in our public schools.

Ensuring fiscal accountability:

  • We need transparent, reviewable, and accountable oversight over corporate tax breaks in Olympia. Companies need to prove they are creating jobs or improving the state economy, otherwise that money needs to go back in taxpayers' wallets.[2]

Scorecards

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
