Biography

Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers was born in San Bernardino, California. She earned a high school diploma from San Bernardino High School, a bachelor's degree from Cal Baptist University in 2003, and a D.O. from Liberty University in 2021. Her career experience includes working as a nonprofit director.

Four of the seven seats on the San Bernardino City Unified School District Board of Education were up for election on November 3, 2015. The seats represent the district at-large.

The seats held by incumbents Margaret Hill, Lynda K. Savage, Sharon "Bobbie" Perong and Mike Gallo were on the ballot.[4]

Incumbents Hill and Gallo won re-election, and newcomers Scott Wyatt and Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers joined the board. They defeated challengers Kaisar Ahmed, Rick Castro, Sonia Fernandez, Steven Paul Gutierrez and Esmeralda Negrete. Savage and Perong did not file to run for re-election.[1][2]

Dowdy-Rodgers reported no contributions or expenditures to the San Bernardino County Elections Office in the election.[5]

The first campaign finance reporting deadline was September 24, 2015, and the second one was October 22, 2015. If candidates raised or spent more than $1,000 from a single source, including their own funds, between August 5, 2015, and November 2, 2015, they had to file a campaign finance report within 24 hours.[6]

Awarded by several Dr. Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers is a parent, wife and twice elected school board member from San Bernardino City Unified School District and a current delegate for Area D, She needs your support and vote for the San Bernardino County Board of Education Area D, (San Bernardino City USD, Rialto USD and Snowline joint USD) seat.

Since 2015, Dr. Dowdy- Rodgers has led in SBCUSD serving as VP and President from 2018 to 2021, proudly serving students and their families, creating policies that helped teachers and staff increase graduation rates to 93.6%.

Dr. Dowdy-Rodgers serves on several boards, including president of SB Arrowhead United Way, First 5 SB Commission, SB Countywide Gangs and Drugs Taskforce, California School Boards Association legislative policy group. For decades, she has provided mentorship and scholarships to female youths in San Bernardino and Rialto.

Endorsed by two prior members that held the Area D seat, current and former County Superintendents, and many leaders in Area D. Dr. Dowdy-Rodgers will continue to advocate to increase countywide student success, parent engagement, fiscal accountability, transparency and fair guidance in hearings that represents all 33 school districts, charters and county schools in San Bernardino County.

Making sure policies that pertain to student success, mental wellness, access and safety must be core policy alignments in educational governance.
My parents are my champions they have been married 67 years and continue to be my role models. They were both sharecroppers and came to California before I was born. My father retired as a construction laborer 30 years ago and my mother work for our city also 30 years.
I like to refer to myself as a public servant which reminds me that I am always to serve others in a respectful and understanding way just as we would do for our own loved ones.
I bring a high level of commitment and integrity toward the work that I do. I am also a graduate of one of the districts that I will be serving and I am a public servant that engages in all aspects of education and community regularly.
To continue to keep students, parents, staff and community in the forefront of every decision made and not a personal agenda.
I would like to leave that I was a model board member that keep the focus on education for the students, parents, staff and community that I served and that I listened and made the difference for many.

Another book by my mentor the late Dr. Margaret Hill "From Non Stopping to Share Cropping" it is a similar story of my parents. The book embraces the challenges of a historical past that becomes the success of a persons future.
Saying no meaning as a public servant that the work off the dias is on going and I show up a lot but despite my call to public service family must be a priority.
