Gwen Fuller-McGriff was appointed Acting Director for the South Carolina Department of Insurance by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley on December 28, 2011 following the abrupt resignation of previous officeholder David Black.[1] She was designated to serve until a successor was appointed and confirmed by the South Carolina General Assembly.[1] Raymond Farmer was selected as the next director on November 13, 2012.[2][3]

McGriff has been an insurance regulator with the South Carolina Department of Insurance since 1995, serving in various capacities: Acting Director, deputy director for Financial Services, deputy director for Consumer and Individual Licensing Services, and general counsel.[1] Prior to joining the Department of Insurance, she served in various capacities as in-house counsel, including associate general counsel at the University of South Carolina, legal counsel at South Carolina State University, and as a staff attorney with the appellate division (criminal appeals) of the South Carolina Office of Attorney General.[1]

Fuller-McGriff was appointed Acting Director for the South Carolina Department of Insurance by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley after director David Black decided to step down in Dec. 2011.[1] She served until a successor was appointed and confirmed by the South Carolina General Assembly. The next director was selected on November 13, 2012.[1]
