|During my Navy career in public affairs, broadcasting, and journalism, I was stationed in Cuba, Japan, Europe, and even on the ice sheet of Antarctica. Before retiring, I was honored to serve in the Pentagon as Bureau Chief of the Navy Wire Service. I earned my Associate of Arts degree from the University of Maryland while stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, later receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (cum laude) from Norfolk State University. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1998, I reported for a Washington Post-affiliated newspaper before moving to the Lowcountry where I continued in journalism with the Bluffton Sun and other media outlets. Service has remained a core value in my life. I enrolled as a volunteer firefighter and EMT-B in Waldorf, MD, for four years. In the Lowcountry, I was appointed the first woman commander of the Sun City Veterans Association and elected president of the Sun City Community Chorus.
While I do enjoy spending time relaxing with my husband and cats, I have been called once more to stand up and serve my community by representing the people of South Carolina State Senate District 46 with honesty and integrity.- I believe women deserve choices and not lies.
- I believe it should not be more difficult to get an abortion than to get a gun.
- I believe that public funds should be used for public education.
I believe I have always been a helper. Not in a big way like founding a settlement house, but in small ways that I see and can do. Now I am doing this big thing – running for office to serve the people in my district by bringing integrity and honesty to the senate.
Because they can’t dance.
