Hal Rounds
Hal Rounds was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 94 of the Tennessee House of Representatives.[1]
Campaign themes
2014
Rounds' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Health Care
- Excerpt: "The United States Constitution delegates no power to Congress to regulate, fund, direct, or organize your relationship with health care providers you may choose. As with so many activities where the federal government has unconstitutionally intruded, we can already see that their efforts, whether meant to be helpful or merely to spread their control into more areas of our lives, are undisputedly harmful, and the State should do all it can to protect our citizens from this hazard."
Marriage
- Excerpt: "Marriage is the union of one man and one woman, for the purpose of creating, nurturing, and preserving a family."
Taxation
- Excerpt: "Tennessee must recognize the great achievements of its citizens in keeping its politicians in line by rising up and crushing errant moves to establish a state income tax."
Business Regulation and Subsidies
- Excerpt: "Interference with business, should be discouraged, and government at all levels should protect businesses from interference. To the extent that some business activities will necessarily be dangerous, regulation of those activities is appropriate."
Education
- Excerpt: "It is not appropriate for the education standards or methods to be dictated by agencies outside the state, whether by grants or by non-elected authorities. While it is appropriate for state education officers to look at what other states are doing, they are answerable to you. You, as parents, must be the final authority over curriculum choices and you must be in charge of education resources, including funding."
