A City of Half Moon Bay Hotel Tax Increase, Measure Q ballot question was on the June 3, 2008 ballot for voters in the City of Half Moon Bay in San Mateo County, California, where it was approved.
Measure Q increased Half Moon Bay's transient occupancy tax (hotel tax) from 10% to 12%.
The money raised by the tax hike was intended to pay for library services, programs and facilities for youths and seniors, police services, parks and recreation, and care of city streets.
At the time of the June 2008 vote, the City of Half Moon Bay owed $41.6 million in the Beachwood land-use judgment, which was one reason it is looking at alternative means to pay for recreation and library services.
