Three seats were up for election on the Hamilton Board of Education on November 5, 2013. Steven Isgro, Robert W. Weigel and incumbent Glenn Stitsinger defeated Arthur Roden, Anna Harvey, and George N. Jonson, to win the three at-large seats.

Hamilton is a city located in Butler County in southwestern Ohio. The city's population was 62,477 according to the 2010 U.S. Census.[1]
Demographics
The 2010 U.S. Census found that 15% of Hamilton residents over 25 years old held undergraduate degrees compared to a 24.5% rate for the state of Ohio. Hamilton had a median income of $38,628 in 2010 compared to $48,071 for Ohio. The poverty rate for Hamilton was 20.9% in 2010 compared to an 14.8% rate for the rest of the state.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Hamilton Board of Education consists of five members who are elected at-large to four-year terms. There was no primary election on September 10, 2013 and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Three seats on the board were up for election in 2013 and two seats were on the ballot on November 3, 2015.[3]
Candidates for the Hamilton Board of Education must be 18 years old, a resident of the district and not hold city office concurrent to board service. The Butler County Board of Elections required a $30 filing fee as well as at least 150 signatures by the filing deadline on August 7, 2013.[4]

What was at stake?
Incumbents George N. Jonson, Glenn Stitsinger and Anna Harvey sought re-election to the board. They were challenged by Robert W. Weigel, Steven Isgro and Arthur Roden. An Ohio Department of Education report from the 2012-2013 school year indicated that students only met 58.3% of performance indicators and earned an F in terms of annual measurable objectives.[6]

Additional elections on the ballot
The Hamilton Board of Education election shared the ballot with other local elections. Residents of Hamilton voted for mayor, three seats on the Hamilton City Council and a seat on the Hamilton Municipal Court. Voters also cast ballots on two local issues dealing with alcohol sales at area businesses.[3]
