Hamilton V. "Kip" Gayden is a circuit court judge for the Twentieth Circuit Court Division I, which presides over Davidson County in Tennessee. He has served on the court since 1978 and was re-elected without opposition in 2006 and 2014. His current term ends in 2022.[1][2][3][4][5]

Education

Gayden received both his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University in 1961 and 1964, respectively.[1][2]

Career

Gayden began his career in 1964, practicing with the Dearborn Law Firm. The following year, he joined the Metro Legal Department and then, in 1968, he practiced with the firm of Smith & Cantrell. Gayden then worked in the Law Office of Larry Levine for a year in 1969 before joining the Hofstetter & Hofstetter Firm in 1970. A year later, Gayden left to run his own private practice. He worked in that capacity through 1973. He has also previously served on the Board of Review of Unemployment Compensation from 1972 to 1974. In 1974, Gayden became a judge for the Davidson County General Sessions Court, where he served until 1978, when he was elevated to the Twentieth Circuit Court.[1]
