Hamza Nazir is a 24 year old proud resident of Forsyth County, a graduate of the Georgia public school system, and an American born and raised first generation college student. Being the oldest child of Pakistani immigrants who moved to the United States in the 1990s, he hopes to serve his community because everyone deserves the opportunity to live the American dream. He is running to challenge the status quo of crooked and corrupt politicians leading Forsyth County today.
  • After losing 2 of my cousins within the span of two weeks in March, I decided that healthcare is going to be my main issue, Georgia is one of the last states which refuses to expand medicaid. Medicaid expansion would allow over half a million Georgians to receive the affordable quality healthcare they need. I believe we should expand medicaid, because no one should have to choose between life or death due to the cost of healthcare.
  • Recently children in Forsyth county schools have bought weapons to school, these events could’ve resulted in far worse outcomes if the weapons weren’t discovered in time. No parent should ever have to send their kids to school worrying if they will make it back home alive, for me the safety of our children is of the utmost importance. I believe we need to introduce legislation which encourages responsible gun ownership, it is possible to protect our freedoms and at the same time protect our future generations from gun violence.
  • Due to the rapid growth of Forsyth county, the current infrastructure is deteriorating and unable to keep up with the current population. In order to alleviate the stress on our roads and reduce traffic. I will work to bring jobs to Forsyth county. Currently most residents have to commute out of the county for work, if we incentivise companies to invest in Forsyth county, we can reduce the traffic for those who will still need to commute out of the county. A positive externality of this would be that the high property prices in Forsyth county would be more sustainable due to the increased demand coming from a greater job market.
I am passionate about medicaid expansion because that is an issue that has affected my family. I believe in implementing real solutions to real problems.
I look up to my father because he never sacrificed his morals in order to make worldly gains. He stressed the importance of faith in our family and always encouraged me to the right thing, especially when it was difficult to do so. His selflessness has taught me to put the needs of others before my own, because a true leader is not one who takes but rather one who gives.
I believe the single most important principle for an elected official is integrity. Elected officials should do the right thing even when no one else is looking. They should always hold the interests of their constituents to a greater degree of importance than any personal or corporate interest.
I believe that I would be a successful officeholder because I would stay true to my roots and work to serve the needs of my constituents before anything else.
I would like to be remembered as someone whose sole purpose in office was to work to make Georgia a better place for all Georgians.
The Holy Quran is my favorite book because I believe that the Quran provides readers with a sense of peace, tranquility, and immense knowledge.
This past march I was in the hospital to help my aunt and uncle look over my little cousin. She had a severe allergy attack which resulted in her being admitted into the hospital. Growing up my aunt and uncle had always lived close by and I would help my aunt take care of my cousins whenever I could. My aunt has polio, so I always took care of her daughters like they were my sisters. After two weeks in the ICU, my cousin passed away. This experience has left me with a changed outlook of life and a passion to fix our broken healthcare system in the United States so no one else has to suffer like my cousin did.
We have a great number of hospitals closing in within the state of Georgia. These hospitals mostly serve rural areas in Georgia, expanding medicaid would help keep these hospitals open similar to what has happened in other states.
I believe that previous experience in government or politics can be beneficial if the state legislator has been working to serve the needs of their constituents. In other cases, state legislators with previous experience of corrupt politics only make government worse.
Yes, I believe that is important to build relationships with other legislators, because some of the issues that your district is facing might also be the same issues that their district might be facing. It is important to be able to work across the aisle to be able to solve issues which affect all Georgians.
I believe the government and elected officials should be held accountable to the greatest degree of financial transparency possible. The taxpayer has the right to know how every penny of their hard earned money is spent.
