Hao Wu is a Chinese immigrant who escaped Communism in 1998 and graduated the top of his class from MLK, Jr. High School in Nashville, TN. After high school, he earned his degree in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He would go on to conduct biochemical research at Vanderbilt University.  In order to give back to a country who had given him more opportunities than he ever could have dreamed and earn his US citizenship, Hao joined the US Army and served in two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as a combat medic for ten years. After being honorably discharged in 2014, Hao made the Upstate his home. He would go on to found a real estate investment company, WLW, LLC., and become the Vice President of Finance and Operations at the Founder Institute. He additionally serves as an after-school mentor at Monaview Elementary, works with the Upstate Warrior Solution's Outdoor Adventure Program, and invests in local businesses.
  • Providing better funding for our Title 1 schools to ensure quality education for ALL children.
  • Increasing the access of healthcare to South Carolinians and decreasing costs.
  • Ensuring that infrastructure advancements are made to fix our roads, light our neighborhoods, and reduce vehicle fatalities.
A few months ago, I lost my mother to terminal cancer. She spent her last moments worrying about the bills that she would be leaving my father and I. Since then, it has been an ongoing battle to resolve the final expenses. The bills have been sent to the wrong address and the process has been tedious.

Unfortunately, my experience is not unique. Our healthcare system is overworked and our communities are underfunded. Over half a million South Carolinians are living without health insurance. In 2016, our legislature could have extended healthcare coverage to our hardworking friends and neighbors who don't have big salaries, our single parents making minimum wage, and our grandparents living on fixed incomes. Yet, they didn't.

As a former combat medic, I have seen the type of quality healthcare that can be provided. I want that for all South Carolinians and am dedicated to fighting for it in the Statehouse.
