Having lived in Brier since 2008, our recent annexation to South County Fire (SCF) and the election for District 1 Fire Commissioner represent an important decision for local communities. As a mother of two boys, considerations of safety are frequently top of mind, and I cherish the role our firefighters and first responders play in keeping us all safe. Ensuring our fire departments have the resources, support, policy alignment, and advocacy to effectively serve community members is paramount.

My business experience showcases a series of successes in leadership, navigating budgetary considerations through times of both rapid growth and occasional retraction, and includes management in union environments. My approach has always been with a people-first mindset, focusing on what’s best for individuals, teams, and families, while balancing with smart organizational strategies. The social and environmental impacts of the decisions made must be taken into consideration.

My commitment to hard work and effective communication means I’ll bring transparency to the Fire Commissioner role, and I’ll do what it takes to make sure communities understand the decision making processes, and that our firefighters and emergency response teams have what they need to be most effective.
  • Communications with communities. I find so many residents in the areas served by SCF

are underinformed about the full breadth and depth of services and response functions supported by South County Fire. In part, I can imagine this is a function of some individuals not needing those services, but I believe more proactive communication lends to stronger community connections and awareness that ultimately can support budget decisions if/as/when the needs may arise. (eg, investment in education now can support future levy or bond requests.) I believe there is a great foundation in place already, and I look forward to further supporting and enhancing this function to help communities/voters be even

    better informed.
  • Ensuring firefighters have the support and wellness initiatives in place for optimal performance. Whether through equipment enhancements, preventive measures, mental health support, training, etc., I hold it as an imperative that we are doing all we can to support those in firefighting and first responder roles.
  • Evaluate and propose any necessary or recommended first responder model enhancements for non-fire emergencies. Whether responding to elderly incidents (like my mother recently experienced!), or other medical urgencies (eg, including overdoses, or drug impairment incidents), I look forward to partnering with other local entities along with evaluating the appropriate staffing and training models to most effectively support communities.
Safety, equity, education, housing, and community allocation of resources
Offering strategic planning and visionary thinking to ensure funding meets South County Fire needs, serving as a liaison between firefighters and tax payers to make sure needs are met, communicate to communities impacted and served by the RFA when changes or enhancements are being planned, but, also support ongoing communications that keep communities apprised of all the services and opportunities provided by SCF.
Scientists and artists, as a way of thinking, and the thought provocation they bring. I would not name a single individual among them as I find inspiration from many, but, also flaws within individuals. I look to learn from those who have come before in hopes I can learn to navigate my own flaws while I lean into learning and creating in such a way that I contribute and benefit the communities I'm a part of.
Integrity, honesty, and communication -- and a willingness to listen to community preferences and demands and reflect those accordingly.
Ensuring firefighters and first responders have the support and resources they need to stay safe while effectively serving communities. This means balancing budget needs and communicating to tax payers so they understand how their taxes are being smartly used to optimize services and equipment while making sure our firefighters and first responders are well taken care of whether through physical and mental health services, safety equipment, and technology advancements where useful and meaningful.
I hope I make a difference, and leave the space I existed in better than before.
One of my earliest memories was noting how crushed my parents were when Elvis Presley died. My dad was a musician, and I remember he was pretty shaken that Elvis had died. I was about 6 years old.
I worked at Taco Johns in Livingston Montana during my sophomore and junior years of High School.
I have to name 2! 1) Tom Robbins, "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates," and 2) "Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas. The first because it so outrageously bizarre, and make me really think about assumptions we live with in a different way, through adventure, superstition, politics, personal challenge, and, paradox. The second because the strategy and long term planning by Edmond were so powerful, and the emotional journey he went on with such heartache but also persistence.
Mary Poppins. She's practically perfect in every way!
Smart, magical, fun, proper, able to be silly, inspire, and remain unflustered.
I came from a family of poverty, and clawed my way through to success, but I always carry my roots in a way that often make me doubt my place. This makes me work even harder to prove my belonging, but, that imposter syndrome is persistent!
I've been asked by some friends, "Are you qualified for this role" as they knew I didn't have any firefighter experience. I helped them understand that actually, a commissioner role is more about business planning, budget planning, and strategic planning to ensure that firefighters and first responders have the resources, training, and wellness support they need, and that the operation doesn't run out of money in order to support these needs over time, and to ensure those impacted are aware of the plans. For that function, I am imminently qualified from the years of business experience I have in budget, business, and strategic planning.
Making sure there are long term plans and budgets to ensure communities have reliable access to first responder needs and firefighting services at the response time levels that every citizen deserves.
