Harriette Chandler
Harriette Chandler (Democratic Party) was a member of the Massachusetts State Senate, representing the 1st Worcester District. She assumed office in 2001. She left office on January 4, 2023.
Chandler (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Massachusetts State Senate to represent the 1st Worcester District. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
She served as state state Senate president from December 5, 2017, to July 25, 2018.[1]
Chandler served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001. She was also vice chair on the Worcester School Committee and a member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee and Worcester Democratic City Committee.
Biography
Chandler was born on December 20, 1937. She earned her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College in 1959, her Ph.D. from Clark University in 1973, and her MBA from Simmon Graduate School of Management in 1983. She also earned her honorary doctorate in Public Administration from Worcester State College in 1988. Her professional experience includes working as a management consultant.[2]
Chandler has served on a number of caucuses and non-legislative committees, including the Central Massachusetts Caucus, the City Task Force on Crisis Management, the Massachusetts Legislature's Tobacco Control Caucus, the Mayor's Advisory Committee, At-Risk Youth, and the Worcester Economic Development Council.

Elections for the Massachusetts State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election was held on September 9, 2014, and a general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Harriette Chandler defeated William Feegbeh and Sean Maher in the Democratic primary. Paul Franco was unopposed in the Republican primary. Chandler defeated Franco in the general election.[7]

Chandler won re-election in the 2012 election for Massachusetts State Senate First Worcester District. Chandler was unopposed in the September 6 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[8][9]
2010
Chandler won re-election to the First Worcester District seat in 2010. She had no primary opposition. William Higgins, Sr ran for the seat on the Republican ticket. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.

2008
On November 4, 2008, Chandler won re-election for the Senate election for the First Worcester district.[10] In this election she raised $153,172; of that total $144,785 (94.6%) was from in state contributions and $8,325 (5.4%) was from out of state contributions.[11]

Chandler was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. She is married to Burton Chandler with three children. Chandler has been involved in a number of organizations, including the Dynamic Advisory Committee, United Way, Central Massachusetts, Worcester Academy, and the Worcester Women's History Project.
