Harry Murphy
Harry Murphy was an at-large member of the Chesapeake Public Schools in Virginia. He assumed office in 1998. He left office on January 1, 2023.
Murphy ran for re-election for an at-large seat of the Chesapeake Public Schools in Virginia. He won in the general election on May 1, 2018.
Biography
Murphy earned his B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy. He later earned an M.S. in education administration from Old Dominion University. Murphy is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. At the time of his tenure, Murphy was the owner of A. Murphy Fence Company. Murphy serves on boards for the Governor's School of the Arts and the Military Child Education Coalition. He and his wife, Karen, have three children and one grandchild.[1]

Five seats on the Chesapeake Public Schools school board in Virginia were up for general election on May 1, 2018. Incumbents Christie Craig, Colleen Leary, Harry Murphy, Louis Tayon Jr., and Michael Woods faced challengers Gayle Gilmore, Sharon Johnson-Clayton, Patricia King, Bryan Miles, Luis Padilla, and Bradley Whitlow.

Harry A. Murphy sought re-election to an at-large seat against fellow incumbents Christie Craig and Michael J. Woods and seven challengers in the general election on May 10, 2014. Board members Bonita Billingsley Harris and Ann R. Wiggins did not file for re-election by the March 4, 2014 deadline.

Funding
Murphy did not report any contributions or expenditures to the Virginia State Board of Elections prior to the election.[2]
Endorsements
Murphy received the endorsement of the Republican Party of Chesapeake in March 2014.[3] The Virginian-Pilot endorsed Murphy ahead of the May 6, 2014 election.[4]
