Harry Pregerson was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. He elected to take senior status beginning on December 11, 2015, and served as a senior federal judge until his death on November 25, 2017.

Early life and education

Born in Los Angeles, California, Pregerson graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a bachelor's degree in 1947, and from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law with an LL.B. in 1950.[1]

Military career

Pregerson was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals

Pregerson was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit by President Jimmy Carter (D) on August 28, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. Pregerson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1979, and he received his commission on November 2, 1979. Pregerson elected to take senior status beginning on December 11, 2015, and he served as a senior federal judge until his death on November 25, 2017.[1][2]

Central District of California

Pregerson was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by President Lyndon B. Johnson (D) on November 29, 1967, to a new seat created by 80 Stat. 75. Pregerson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 7, 1967, and he received his commission on December 7, 1967. Pregerson resigned from the district court on November 6, 1979, upon his elevation to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He was succeeded in this position by Judge Cynthia Holcomb Hall.[1]
