Harvey Sparks

Harvey Sparks was a 2014 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Oklahoma.[1] He was defeated in the Republican primary on June 26, 2014.[2]

Biography

Sparks grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Oklahoma City and Putnam City public schools.[3] He graduated from Putnam City West High School. He went on to graduate from Oklahoma Baptist University with a degree in family psychology. He also has a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.[3]

Career

Sparks is an ordained minister.[3] He has served as a pastor at churches in Oklahoma City, Norman and Tulsa. He also served as a missionary for two years in southern Africa.[3]

Sparks ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent Oklahoma's 5th District.[1] Former state Senator Steve Russell, and Commissioner of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Patrice Douglas defeated Sparks, state Rep. Mike Turner, state Sen. Clark Jolley and Shane Jett in the Republican primary on June 24, 2014.[2]
