The Hawaii Housing Standards, Amendment 1, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in Hawaii on November 2, 1976, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment proposed one new addition to the constitution: Article VIII, Section 4. The amendment proposed that the Section read: The state shall have power to provide for or assist in housing slum clearance and development or rehabilitation of substandard areas, and the exercise of such power is deemed to be for a public use and purpose.[1]
