Hawaii Judicial Selection Commission decides to release names
November 30, 2011
HONOLULU, Hawaii: The Hawaii Judicial Selection Commission has decided that from now on it will release the names of judicial candidates it nominates to the state Supreme, Appeals and Circuit courts. The change in policy comes in light of the events surrounding Governor Neil Abercrombie's refusal to release the names of candidates he received from the commission when he made several judicial appointments in 2010.[1]
In keeping with its decision to be public with the candidates it chooses, the commission released the names of nominees for the position left open by Judge Rhonda I.L. Loo's move from the Maui Second Circuit District Court to the Maui Second Circuit Court. The names released are: Mimi DesJardins, Michelle Drewyer, Adrianne Heely, Adriel Menor, Richard Priest and Douglas Sameshima. From this list, Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald will make his appointment by December 24.[2]
