Hawaii Legislative Reference Bureau

The Hawaii Legislative Reference Bureau is a nonpartisan legislative service agency that serves the members and staff of the Hawaii Legislature.

Governance

The Legislative Reference Bureau is led by a director who oversees the day to day operations of the bureau. The director is approved by the Legislature who is approved by a simple majority vote in both chambers of the Legislature, and serves a six year term. The director is responsible for hiring all employees in the bureau.[1]

Bill drafting

Legislative Reference Bureau staff provides bill and resolution drafting for all members of the Hawaii Legislature.[1]

Legislative library

A reference library for legislators, committee staff, and the general public is provided by the Legislative Reference Bureau. The library provides past and current legislative information along with other publications.[1]

Research services

The Legislative Reference Bureau provides nonpartisan legislative and legal research for Hawaii legislators. The bureau also does research on short and long term studies. All fiscal and other specialized research is handled by the majority and minority caucuses of the Hawaii Legislature.[1]
