Hawaii federal judge David Ezra to take senior status in June

HONOLULU, Hawaii: U.S. District Judge David Alan Ezra announced Monday that he will take senior status at the end of June. Judge Ezra joined the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii in 1988 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.[1] Senator Daniel Akaka commended Ezra for his service, commenting "Judge Ezra has done a fine job on the federal bench over the past 24 years. He has served with integrity, and has thoughtfully interpreted and upheld the rule of law. His leadership will be missed."[1]
The Federal Judicial Selection Commission was formally enacted on Tuesday, February 21 by U.S. Senators Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka in order to find a replacement for Judge Ezra. The purpose of the commission is to recommend and select nominees with the highest qualification and competency. The chairman of the commission will be Honolulu attorney Larry Okinaga. President Barack Obama will make the appointment subject to the United States Senate.[1]
